Knife Skills – 101, Hands On
Want to learn the basics like the chefs you see on TV and in your favorite restaurants? Well, join us for the basic knife skills class where instructor Tom O'Brien will teach you a variety of cuts, like dice, slice, julienne, chiffonade and how to sharpen and hone knives. Class will also include the important steps in the use and care for your knives. Quality knives are an investment and can last many years if properly cared for. In the end, a salsa will be made from the ingredients. Knives will be provided during class for student use. This class is appropriate for individuals 18 years and older.

About Tom: In addition to being Different Drummer's Kitchen resident knife expert, Tom O'Brien is an illustrator and cartoonist with a focus on food and cooking. His work has previously been published on the Chopping Blog, the blog for America's largest recreational cooking school, as well as various small press publications. He is currently working on his next non-fiction graphic novel, The Knife Guide, a how-to on the use and care of kitchen knives. The Knife Guide is a spiritual successor to his previous non-fiction food comic The Liquor Cabinet, a brief history of the world's most popular liquors.
